AWMF (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Wissenschaftlichen Medizinischen Fachgesellschaften) founded in 1962 and the umbrella organisation for 174 German medical and scientific societies has joined the MoreTrials campaign.
At their spring conference delegates discussed how current guidelines for the conduct of randomised trials, particularly ICH-GCP, was a major barrier in Germany to the conduct of more and better randomised trials.
Speaking after the meeting, AWMF Board member Professor Dr med. Christoph Herrmann-Lingen, who was one of the original signatories on our letter to the EMA and ICH, said:
“I am very pleased that the AWMF has joined the MoreTrials campaign as an international effort that includes everybody involved in clinical trials is required to develop better guidelines for conducting trials. In Germany, this particularly applies to the need for more and better industry independent studies and the AWMF is well placed to take this forward given its members’ track record of developing guidelines for conducting clinical studies.”
